John Lennon’s killer Mark Chapman has failed in his latest bid to be released on parole.
Chapman, 51, will now remain New York’s Attics Correctional Facility for at least two more years.
According to the BBC the panel at the jail commended Chapman’s "satisfactory institutional adjustment" but decided his release was against the best interests of the community.
The three person panel addressed Chapman during a 16 minute hearing about the 1980 murder of the former Beatle.
In a written statement they said: "The panel remains concerned about the bizarre nature of this premeditated and violent crime.”
"While the panel notes your satisfactory institutional adjustment, due to the extremely violent nature of the offence your release would not be in the best interest of the community."
It is the fourth time Mark Chapman has applied for parole.
