The Shins have finished their now delayed-until-2007 album ‘Wincing The Night Away’.
According to front man James Mercer the record will be a ten track affair with separate a short introduction.
The record had been due for release this summer but much to the dismay of fans was put back to October and then to January earlier this month.
However, Mercer says that the record has definitely profited from the delays, he told Billboard: "It would have been great to have released this a year ago, but the benefits [of waiting] are big."
"I'm constantly reminded of how much better the project gets as new discoveries are made. That only happens through taking your time and being able to approach it with some new perspective."
And it seems that the bands label Sub Pop agree, Mercer added: "I was just talking to some of the people at Sub Pop who were listening to the rough mixes, and they agree with me that we've stretched. We're trying some different styles."
Songs set to appear on the album include ‘Phantom Limb’, ‘Red Rabbits’, ‘A Comet Appears’, ‘Spilled Needles’ and ‘Spelling Lessons’.
‘Wincing The Night Away’ is The Shins last album under their current contract with Sub Pop and Mercer says they haven’t decided yet on whether to resign or go elsewhere for their next release.
