Arcade Fire front man Win Butler has given more insight into the recording of the bands highly anticipated second album.
Speaking on the bands website Butler revealed that although they had considered working with a number of producers they have now decided to do most of the work on the record themselves.
He wrote: “After trying to decide if we would work with any producers we kind of realised that we already know how we want things to sound so we would just run after that sound as fast as we can and not rely on someone else to guide the goodship arcade fire…at least for now.”
He added that they had been visited in their church turned studio by Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash producer Bob Johnson while they recorded.
The Montreal collective are being guided through the recording by engineers including Scott Colburn (Animal Collective) and Marcus Dravs (Brian Eno, James).
Speaking about the material recorded so far Butler said: “We have finished all the string section stuff with Sarah (Belle Orchestra) and Owen (Pallet of Final Fantasy) which was as inspiring as ever. It was an intense three days of recording all day.”
“We talked about a lot of ideas for orchestration, and Regine and him (Pallet) are trading midi files trying to get 3 songs arranged for late August.”
“Regine and I are going to sneak away somewhere closer to the ocean for a week or so, so that we can record more vocals…a lot of the songs remind me of being near the ocean at night time,” finished Bulter.
