Fats Domino pulled out of the New Orleans Jazz Fest hours before his planned headline performance tonight.
The 78-year-old’s appearance had been set up as the emotional climax of the city’s first festival since Hurricane Katrina decimated much of New Orleans nine months ago.
Domino’s own home was badly affected by the Hurricane and ensuing flood waters, with the legendary blues man himself missing for several days before being successfully rescued by boat.
The organisers of the 37th annual festival did not give a reason for Domino’s cancellation, but Fats had cancelled an album promotion last week claiming he was tired and wanted to preserve his energy for his planned performance.
