The UK Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that a poster of 50 Cent for his film ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ condoned gun crime.
The industry watchdog made the ruling on the poster which depicts the rapper holding a gun and a baby after complaints from people saying it was irresponsible or offensive.
Universal Music Group who produced the advertising contended that the image was meant to represent the struggle to escape the ghetto.
50 Cent was also criticised in America for a similar poster for the film which showed him holding a gun and a microphone reports the BBC.
The ASA said that there was a link between the poster and the plot but added: “We considered, however, that Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson had such cultural credibility, especially among young people, that his association with gang culture and criminal behaviour was likely to be seen as glamorising and condoning the possession and use of guns."
