Mark Owen has shocked fans at one of his gigs by pretending to hang himself at the end of a performance of Joy Division classic ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’.
The Take That pop reject was appearing in Manchester when he performed the sick stunt by yanking his tie up and lolling his head to one side while letting his tongue hang out.
One fan described the incident to the Sun, saying “People were shocked. It seemed sick,” another added: “It was heinous. He was even dressed like Ian Curtis with his tight shirt.”
“He did the hanging about five or ten seconds after finishing the song and said ‘I’ve been wanting to do that for ages’.”
A spokesman for Owen tried to quell the controversy saying: “He would never mean to cause offence. He’s a very well liked guy.”
Curtis hanged himself in 1980 as Joy Division stood on the verge of International success.
