A former WCW World Champion is attempting to sue rapper Jay Z, accusing him of stealing his trademark hand gesture.
Diamond Dallas Page served a lawsuit against Jay Z last week in Los Angeles accusing the hip hop mogul of copyright infringement.
The hand gesture comprises of putting two hands forward with thumbs and fingers to form a diamond shape and features on the front of many of Jay-Z’s albums as well as in his videos.
Page claims that his copyrighted the hand formation back in 1996 and says he has brought the action in order to save his livelihood. He his also claiming damages as compensation.
Pages lawyer George Gallegos explained: "People would come up to him and ask him if he was letting Jay-Z use it or if he had licensed it to him. Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records use this symbol to promote themselves, to promote their artists, to promote their music and to promote their fan base.”
He added: "People have come to recognize (Page by this symbol), and the way that it's being used by Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella is taking value away from it and creating confusion upon the public."
Jay Z is yet to comment on the lawsuit.
