Around 200 politicians backed his petition on Wednesday calling for legal action against seven acts who have allegedly brought on the rioting.
MP Francois Grosdidier: "When people hear this all day long and when these words swirl round in their heads, it is no surprise that they then see red as soon as they walk past policemen or simply people who are different from them."
Grosdidier, a member of Jacques Chriac’s UMP party, went on to say that rap music should be banned from the radio as well.
Musicians in France have strongly refuted the MP’s claims.
Rapper Monsieur R – real name Richard Makela - said that rap does not bring about violence.
As BBC reports he told French Television: "Hip hop is a crude art, so we use crude words. It is not a call to violence."
