DMX has been sentenced to an extra 10 days imprisonment – 70 days in total - for not showing respect in a New York courtroom.
The rapper received the original sentence for a string of motoring offences, culminating in two speeding offences which broke conditions of his release after a car crash at the JFK airport in New York last year.
On Thursday (November 17), DMX – real name Earl Simmons – appeared three hours late for his sentencing after Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Despite profusely apologising for his conduct and blaming his lateness on an asthma attack, he was still slapped with an extra 10 days in prison.
Prosecutor Gerard Brave favoured the sentence extension, telling the New York courthouse, that DMX “continues to show disregard for the court. He continues to put his own interests and career ahead of the court,” reports Billboard.
However, if Simmons behaves in prison it is very likely hat his sentence will be reduced and he may be in home in time for Christmas.
